Micaela Heekin

Micaela works as a book editor and writer. She started her career crafting email dispatches for the development team at Mother Jones before taking on an editorial role at Chronicle Books. Micaela has worked on a wide variety of books, with subject matter ranging from law to education to food culture. She edited the centennial history of the San Francisco Symphony Music for a City, Music for the World, SF JAZZ: The First 30 Years, and Call the Rescue: The Story of the Marine Mammal Center. She's written books for children and adults, including Icons, 50 Heroines Who Shaped Contemporary Culture

Micaela enjoys volunteering in the community, and has spent time tutoring in San Francisco’s public schools and supporting families at UCSF’s Family House. She is an ongoing supporter of Southern Exposure, an artist-centered non-profit in the Mission district that supports visual artists. She serves as a board member of The Nature Conservancy of California, as well as co-chair of its California Leadership Council.

Micaela loves that Bay instills intellectual curiosity and critical thinking in equal parts, and appreciates that academic rigor is balanced with a whole-student approach that teaches students the lifelong benefits of mindfulness.

Micaela's son, Archie, graduated from Bay in the Class of 2025.
