Admissions

Bay is adopting a test-optional policy for students applying for admission in the 2020-2021 application year. This means that applicants for Fall 2021 will not be required to submit SSAT, ISEE, or HSPT scores for admission.

Bay’s longstanding commitment to equity is driving our decision ahead of the fall. We are at a critical juncture in global history that is proving to be both challenging and full of opportunities to reimagine the future. There is ongoing debate about the merits of standardized testing versus the inequities it introduces into the admission process at both the high school and college levels.

The current pandemic adds real concerns about safety but also new layers of complexity regarding equity. Though at-home testing is available, required access to a computer, quiet space, and a stable internet connection are not evenly distributed resources. The 2020-2021 admission cycle will give us an opportunity to assess the impact and efficacy of test scores in our admission process.

Test-Optional Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

May I submit my scores if I would like?

We are confident in our ability to evaluate applicants in our holistic review process with an emphasis on coursework and grades, teacher recommendations, essays, and interviews. However, if you submit scores from the SSAT, ISEE, or HSPT they will be added to the holistic review for consideration by the Admission Committee.

If I don’t submit test scores will I be at a disadvantage in the admissions process?

No. The Admission Committee will make no inferences about a student’s ability to succeed in our academic program based on the absence of test scores. The absence of test scores is not factored into the evaluation of an applicant.

Will transfer students need to provide standardized test scores?

Transfer students who apply to Bay are required to provide PSAT, SAT, or ACT scores if those exam results are available.
