January 2008

Happy New Year from the Bay School!

We are back in session at Bay, after taking a relaxing break to celebrate the holidays with family and friends. We hope that your holiday season was filled with joy!

The deadline to submit applications for the 2008-2009 academic year  was January 10, 2008. Please note that we will send out postcards to each applicant to confirm that your application is complete approximately two weeks after the deadline. We are really looking forward to getting to know our next class better through their collective submissions of essays, recommendations, and transcripts.

A brief recap of what was an exciting and chock-full year, 2007, along with some additional pieces of noteworthy news:

  • In athletics: our girls’ varsity volleyball team earned a spot in the BCL Central Division championship game, capping off their strong season with sixteen wins.
  • In the classroom: students enrolled in our advanced science elective, SF Bay, spent four nights and five days on a fifty-foot schooner, conducting ecological experiments throughout San Francisco Bay.
  • In the arts: the Bay School fall theatre production, Noises Off, was a smashing success--met with much laughter, applause, and appreciation during its sold-out two-night run.
  • As part of an ongoing study and practice of world religions and ethics: the entire Bay School community came together to observe the Muslim holiday Ramadan in November as well as Hanukkah, Christmas, Deepavali, and  Kwanzaa in December. Students broke their half-day Ramadan fast by sharing a pizza snack in the afternoon!
  • Recent college placement news: six members of the Class of 2008 have committed to their first-choice schools through the early application process: Bowdoin College, Hampshire College, University of Oregon, St. Olaf College, United States Air Force Academy, and Wellesley College.

2007 was a full year at Bay and we look forward to the graduation of our first senior class in June 2008! Please feel free to contact us in the Admission Office with any questions regarding the admission process and for more information about the Bay School.

Sincerely,
Annie Tsang
