Alissa Merksamer - Humanities

B.A., American Studies, Claremont McKenna College
M.A., Food Studies, New York University
Alissa comes to The Bay School after several years working as a food writer and editor. She's written for a variety of publications including the San Francisco Chronicle, Palo Alto Weekly, 7x7, and Westjet magazine. In 2009, she moved to New York City to earn an M.A. in Food Studies (a degree as delicious as it sounds). While there, she led food history walking tours through the Lower East Side, Chinatown, and Little Italy. Alissa has previously lectured at Stanford University and University of the Pacific and spent the last two summers teaching SAT prep classes in reading and writing. She's thrilled to join Bay and welcomes any recommendations for foods/restaurants, live theater, and biking routes that avoid hills.
