Katherine Riley - Arts Department Chair
B.A., English Literature and Literature History, Religion and Culture, Georgetown University
Before beginning her teaching career in 2002, Katherine worked in New York City as a producer and casting agent for still photo shoots in fashion and advertising. It was her own high school drama teacher and mentor, Demi Ashton, who encouraged Katherine to take on the role of director/teacher. Demi's encouragement helped Katherine find the roles that were challenging and transformative both on stage and off. Katherine arrived in San Francisco in 2003 and heard about The Bay School starting up, and the rest, as they say, is history. Katherine has been a lifelong member of one theater group or another and is constantly stretching her acting experiences. Katherine has studied and performed with the Improv Performance Lab at Berkeley Repertory Theatre for several years and studied Viewpoints with Mark Jackson. Katherine has served as the faculty advisor for The Bay School Outing Club and loves to share outdoor adventures with students and colleagues. When she’s not at school, Katherine can be found hiking, backpacking, camping or exploring with her husband, Deek, and their dog, The Peanut.
