Brad Niven - Engineering, Robotics, Director of the Project Center
B.F.A., Industrial Design, California College of the Arts
Now in his third year teaching at Bay, Brad has been involved with The Bay School since 2003, when he built the scale model of 35 Keyes Avenue that is displayed on the second floor. Brad helped develop the Project Center where he teaches Design Thinking through project-based courses in a hands-on learning environment. Being an avid machinist, tinkerer, and designer, he firmly believes in the power of getting your hands dirty to be a good problem solver. Brad spent many years working in Silicon Valley for research labs and design firms before teaching for two years at The Athenian School in Danville, returning to Bay in 2011. Brad is always on the look-out for new ideas and new technologies that will help his students develop a lifelong love of creating and learning. He has many interests outside of school, including jazz piano, audio engineering and sound design, reading history, watching movies, hiking, kayaking and being at the beach with his dog. Favorite Books: Master and Commander (O'Brian), The Great Gatsby (Fitzgerald), and Outliers (Gladwell).
