Mio Berk, Asst. Dean of Students/9th-Grade Dean

Mio joined The Bay School in fall 2010 as a College Counselor after serving in a similar capacity in the San Francisco Unified School District. Prior to Bay, she has experience working as a substitute teacher, grant writer, youth director, and coordinator at an entrepreneurial coaching firm. Mio has been involved in multiple roles at Bay, including rock climbing instructor, Social Events Coordinator, Conduct Review Council member, and School Life Committee sponsor. In fall 2017, Mio assumed the role of Assistant Dean of Students after 7 blissful years in the college counseling office. Mio is also highly involved in Diversity Equity and Inclusion work, serving as a coordinator of the staffulty-of-color affinity group, a member of the Diversity Committee, and is a founding staff facilitator of the Student Equity Inclusion and Diversity Council. In summer 2014, she also launched the Jump Start Program, a weeklong summer orientation designed to help incoming 9th-graders acculturate to Bay. Outside of school, Mio continues her connection as an active alumna of the University of San Francisco and served as an Adjunct Instructor in its School of Education from 2013-2017. In her spare time, she enjoys chasing her son, practicing yoga, and seeking the best bowl of ramen.
