Why did you choose to attend The Bay School?
The biggest reason I chose Bay is that it is very future oriented, and gives students freedom and responsibility when it comes to their learning. One example of this is the tutorial period at Bay. It is a time where you can schedule meetings with teachers if you need help, have a question, etc. I feel this gives a student the opportunity to take charge of their learning and performance in a class. Meeting with teachers is a big responsibility, but it helps students gain independence, which is a skill that can be used throughout life. Overall, I think that Bay does a great job of preparing students for college, as well as equipping them with skills they will use throughout their lives.
What has been your favorite class taken at Bay?
My favorite class at Bay is Chemistry because I have always been very interested in sciences. I love how hands-on, fun, and engaging the science classes are.
What is your favorite part of the Bay community?
My favorite part of the Bay community is the relationships that students develop with their teachers. With opportunities like tutorial, you are able to build a better relationship with your teacher, which personally makes me feel more comfortable reaching out for help. Bay also does a great job of making sure that the teachers and students are equal in the classroom, which overall helps students feel a lot more comfortable participating in the classroom
What has been your most memorable experience at Bay?
One of my most memorable experiences at Bay was during Christmas time in my first year. Bay has a tradition where the whole school gets together in the great room to sing our own song called 12 Days of Solstice. I just remember being so happy with my decision to attend Bay because of how fun and lighthearted the school can be!
You now have two years of Bay under your belt, what is the one thing you have learned most about yourself? How has Bay helped you discover that?
One thing that I have definitely learned about myself is even though I am scared to push myself out of my comfort zone, I really do learn so much when I do. Bay has pushed me out of my comfort zone many times, and has given me space to fail and learn from these experiences in a safe environment. I am encouraged to continue to take risks even if I might fail.
What advice would you give to prospective students who are considering Bay?
One piece of advice I would give prospective students is to continue to be yourself throughout the process, and to follow your instincts when picking your new high school!
