Why did you choose to attend The Bay School?
I chose to attend Bay as soon as I stepped on campus. Not only was I taken aback by how beautiful the Presidio was, but I was also surprised by how tight-knit the people here are. I instantly clicked with my host and her friends. I attended a math class, and the teacher was engaging and visibly passionate about her work. I remember looking around me and realizing that this was the high school experience that I wanted.
What has been your favorite class taken at Bay?
I'm actually surprised by this, but my favorite class at Bay has been my Calculus B class. As a child, math always excited me. Growing older, this subject lost its magic for me; I don't really know why or when I realized that I no longer enjoyed math. But, this last trimester, I began the second half of the calculus curriculum. My teacher made time outside of class to meet with me individually. She practiced many different teaching styles, and I soon understood not only what to do, but why I was doing what I was doing. Now, I'm excited to go to class everyday and learn. It's really surprising to me.
What is your favorite part of the Bay community?
My favorite part of the Bay community are the teachers. Each of my teachers know me as a person, not just by how well I do in their subject. This is partly due to the small class sizes, but it is mostly because the teachers genuinely want to know their students.
What has been your most memorable experience at Bay?
My most memorable experience at Bay was when my advisory played frisbee on the green space. We were all a bit stressed and restless during the advisory period, so my advisor suggested that we get out and have a little fun. It was a great bonding experience and exactly what each of us needed at that time.
How has Bay prepared you for college and life beyond?
Bay's college counseling and test preparation services have helped me in more ways than I can count. Not only are they incorporated within my schedule, but they are just the right amount of support. We are in charge of our process, but we have a strong web of people helping us succeed. Not only has Bay prepared me for college, but it has also given me the skills to succeed at life itself. We learn by doing, so all of my collaborative and problem solving skills come from the experiences I've had at Bay.
What advice would you give to prospective students who are considering Bay?
Trust the process and follow your gut. Yes, I was impressed by Bay's mission and philosophy, but it wasn't until I visited that I learned that Bay truly practices what they preach. If your instincts are telling you something, follow them!
