Morning Meeting: Rise to Run

Yesterday at Morning Meeting, we had the pleasure of hearing from Shannon Watts about the activist group Rise to Run. Shannon is Chairwoman of the Rise to Run Advisory Board & Founder of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America. Held in a panel style, students Hannah '18 and Addicen '20 asked Shannon questions collected from Bay students for an enriching discussion.
The goal of Rise to Run is to create a new pipeline of women ready to enter electoral politics at a younger age...the current average age is 47.
In addition, Rise to Run is encouraging girls and young women to view public service as a viable and desirable occupation: a recent study of high school and college students found that only 19 percent had any interest in running for office.
To reverse that trend, Rise to Run’s boots-on-the-ground infrastructure emboldens young progressive women to enter public office, electoral politics, and progressive activism at all levels of government. To find out more about Rise to Run, you can view their website:
