The Arts are Alive at Bay – Drama, Dance, and Music

Throughout each year, the Bay School stage is surrounded by thunderous applause in response to a series of theatrical performances by Bay School students. Three full-scale dramatic performances are produced annually, directed by both the drama department staff and students themselves. Productions in the fall and spring are typically plays while the winter performance is a musical featuring a large cast accompanied by a Bay School student orchestra. All students are enthusiastically encouraged to audition for roles and a large student group constitutes the important production crew. Parent and faculty/staff volunteers pitch in to make each performance a truly Bay family event. Recent performances have included: Bye Bye Birdie, Brighton Beach Memoirs, The Importance of Being Earnest, The Wiz, and Don’t Drink the Water. Performances are held at the Southside Theater at Fort Mason as well as on campus in the Great Room.

Music routinely fills the air thanks to the Bay Blues Band and rock ensemble, both of which perform regularly at all-school gatherings and off campus for community groups and schools. The Bay School dance program also performs an inspiring mix of salsa, hip hop, traditional and modern dances at all-school gatherings and special events on campus. We are fortunate to collaborate closely with the Presidio Dance Theater located nearby in the Presidio to take advantage of their excellent program of ethnic dance.
