The Bay School Project Center

Imagine, Design, Create

Fall 2011 brought the exciting opening of the new Bay School Project Center. Located at 3 Funston Avenue, just steps away from the main campus, the Project Center provides dedicated engineering and design facilities that enable the growth of the school's engineering, design and robotics programs, as well as expanded fine arts studio space for sculpture and printmaking classes. The Project Center also serves as the new home of Bay's distinctive Senior Signature Project Program.

The 4,000 sq. ft. two-storey wood frame building was constructed in 1942 for use during World War II, serving as barracks for Army troops. A National Historic Landmark building, it has been fully rehabilitated, upgraded and modernized for educational use, qualifying for LEED certification from the United States Green Building Council.

The comprehensive renovation of the building has created spacious, open project laboratories on each floor. The ground floor is equipped with a machine and carpentry shop for the fabrication of small-scale design/engineering projects. The upper floor includes a designated space for the school's robotics program, equipped with various technologies to enable CAD design and production. The second floor also provides a flexible fine arts studio bathed in natural light for sculpture, painting and printmaking classes. The Senior Signature Project Program office is located on the second floor of the building.

The Project Center plays a central role in realizing the Bay School's commitment to offering students multiple opportunities to apply theory and knowledge to practice, tackling authentic, hands-on problems and challenges—a distinctive and core element of a Bay School education.
