Activity Program

Our guiding precepts include valuing a healthy, strong body and calm, resilient mind. In light of this, we require that students who do not play on a sports team participate in physical activities. All 9th-, 10th- and 11-th-graders not competing on a sports team are required to participate in a designated physical activity class or approved alternative activity during the fall and spring trimesters.  Approved Alternate Activities must be physical activity related and be facilitated by an instructor/coach.  Designated activity classes take place on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 3:45-5:00 p.m. two trimesters a year (Fall and Spring) and offer a range of activities at the school, Letterman GymPlanet GraniteSan Francisco Crossfit and the Presidio YMCA. Class offerings include martial arts, rock climbing, yoga and pilates, group exercise and strength training. Additional activities classes are offered based upon student interests, availability of instructors and seasonal considerations. Through these activities, our students experience the benefits of physical activity that inspire adoption of these healthy practices for life. All students are required to complete 3 credits of physical education (0.5 credits per term) through team sports or activity classes in order to fulfill Bay's graduation requirements.
