End of Term Assignment and Gradebook Access for Parents/Guardians
Parent/Guardian access to the Canvas system is limited to one-week windows surrounding the midterm and end-of-term grading periods. Enabling greater transparency for families during these weeks provides parents, guardians, and students with additional context to complement the narrative feedback and grade students receive at the midterm and end-of-term. During these windows, parents/guardians will have access to more detailed assignment-level gradebook information in a view that mimics the student experience. This means that you will receive any and all communications from the Canvas system as per your student's notification settings. See below for login instructions and information about disabling notifications.
Please follow these steps to access your Canvas account:
  • Visit
  • Click Forgot Password? link if you've never registered. (If you registered during midterm, enter the password you set then.)
  • Enter your username.
Each parent/guardian has a unique username. Your username is your first initial, last name, followed by the last two digits of your student’s graduation year.
For example, John Smith (whose daughter Lizzy Smith graduates in 2021) is assigned the username jsmith21. If a parent/guardian username conflicts with that of their student, the parent username will end with xx1 (ex. jsmith211)Please note, if you are the parent of multiple Bay students, whether current or alumni, please remember to use your eldest
student's graduation year. If for instance, John Smith also had a student Elliot in the class of 2017, his login would be jsmith17.
  • This will send a message to your email on file (remember to check your spam folder); follow the instructions contained in the email to set a permanent password for your account. Select a unique password that will be easy for you to remember.
  • Login to Canvas using your updated credentials.
  • Accept the Canvas Terms of Use
  • Once you are logged in, you will see your student’s Dashboard. Dashboards will be blank upon your first login. When grades are released on Thursday evening, your dashboard will populate with a tile for each of your student’s courses. To explore more starting Thursday, select the desired Course Tile and peruse links in the left hand Navigation Menu for more detailed information about Assignments and Grades.
  • To disable email notifications, click "Account" in the top left corner, click "Notifications" and opt out by selecting "X Do not send me anything".
