Building the Future - The Bay School Vision

An Education for the 21st Century

The process of founding The Bay School of San Francisco began as an inspiring dream and challenge in the late 1990s. A dedicated and farsighted board of trustees comprised of experienced educators, business and civic leaders, as well as parents came together. They shared a common vision and commitment to establish a new independent high school in San Francisco; with a mission focused squarely on preparing students for roles of leadership and engagement in the dynamic world of the 21st century.

The dream was realized in the fall of 2004 as the Bay School opened with a distinguished inaugural faculty and a student body of 62 capable and motivated freshmen, the Class of 2008. At the start of the 2005-2006 academic year the next important milestone was reached as the school welcomed its second class and moved into Bay's beautiful permanent campus at 35 Keyes Avenue at the center of the Presidio of San Francisco. The entire school community joyously celebrated the graduation of the founding Class of 2008 on June 6th 2008. Enrollment has steadily grown to 285 students in the 2011-2012 academic year.

The future holds much in store. The board of trustees, along with committed Bay parents and friends, look ahead with great excitement to expanding the school's facilities and programs. The Bay School Project Center, located at 3 Funston Avenue adjacent to the main campus, opened in September 2011 as the home of Bay's engineering and design programs. The center houses a machine and woodworking shop on the ground floor as well as a robotics lab, fine arts studio space, and Senior Signature Project offices on the second floor.
