Annie Tsang
Director of Admission

I am an East Coaster ‘slash’ Californian; I grew up in Lexington, MA and attended college in Maine. However, I was always drawn west, especially after my family moved to California in 1997. After graduating from Bowdoin, I spent three additional years living in Portland and working for the College as Assistant Dean of Admissions. The wonderful experience of representing a college, especially my alma mater, led me to more work in education in Washington, DC (college counseling, teaching English, and as senior class dean at an independent boarding school), and now happily here at Bay as Admission Director, where I am in my fourth year. I earned my master’s degree in English Literature from Middlebury College, in a unique program that allowed me to study on campuses across the world, from Oxford University to St. John’s in Santa Fe, to Middlebury, VT.

When not at Bay, you’ll find me strolling around the farmer’s market, running along Crissy Field, or enjoying gazpacho, lemon squares, and sashimi (not all at once) with friends. My quirks: I’m left-handed, and I like to read standing up in the kitchen in front of the window. My loves: Stevie Wonder, Maine, old episodes of the West Wing, and singing with Alan while playing the guitar during precious free moments at Bay.

Erica Brodie
Assistant Director of Admission

I'm a Massachusetts native and grew up just outside of Boston in the tiny town of Dover (rounding out the all East Coast admissions team). In an attempt to escape the brutal New England winters, I spent four fabulous years studying Psychology and Spanish at Stanford University. After graduation, I taught for two years at San Francisco Day School before heading back east to complete my master's degree in Education Policy at Harvard University.

During grad school I interned in the admissions office at Tufts University and absolutely loved it, vowing one day to return to admissions. After barely surviving one winter in Boston, I happily returned to San Francisco where I spent two years in educational research and policy at the non-profit organization, WestEd. When a position in Bay's admission office opened up I literally jumped at the opportunity, and I am now entering my third year here as the Assistant Director of Admission.

Some interesting things to know about me: I am, and always will be, a diehard Red Sox fan, though I really enjoy all baseball games. I love tennis and running. I also love dark chocolate, peanut butter, and lattes-not necessarily in that order.

Alan Siu
Admission Associate

I grew up in the Boston suburbs just a few towns over from Annie and Erica, went to Wesleyan University (where I met my wife, a fellow English major), and then earned my master's degree at the Harvard University Graduate School of Education, planning to become a teacher. I taught high school English in North Quincy, MA and in Newington, CT and after moving west, taught English at Crystal Springs Uplands School, where I also began working in the admission office. After leaving teaching, I wanted to continue to work in education, so I began work as the admission database manager at California College of the Arts.

Joining the Bay School in 2007 provided a wonderful opportunity for me to return to independent schools and to become part of a school whose mission I deeply believe in—particularly the emphasis on depth over breadth, stewardship of time, and ethics and world religions. During the past two years, I've grown to mightily appreciate the benefits (for students, faculty, and staff alike) of our daily morning meditations.

As the admission associate here at Bay, I'll probably be the first person you speak with on the phone or hear back from via email. I also help out with the Bay School a cappella singing group, and I enjoy serving as a freshman advisor.

Fun facts about me: At age 7, I switched from being right-handed to left-handed when writing with a pencil or pen (still right-handed for writing with chalk); I'm a vegetarian who doesn't like spicy food, and I somehow still find stuff to eat; I have a double-fold on one eyelid and a single-fold on my other eyelid; and I love cats (especially mine).
