Dear Prospective Families,

The Bay School has an intentional approach to holistically educating the students in its care. Our teaching faculty work tirelessly to craft courses that draw students deep into meaningful discussion and research, giving them the confidence that breeds innovative thinking and brave expression. Our students develop sophisticated intellects and skills. But academic challenge here is not separate from the values of community and equity, and our precepts not only guide and inspire schoolwide programming and classroom discussions, they also—most importantly—give students tangible ways to simply be good people.

Bay’s intent is to create a community in which diversity, equity, and belonging can be found by all. Our hope is that when Bay students leave to become world citizens and leaders, they will take the values that they learned here and apply them to their lives and share them with the people around them.

Our admission process reflects our values: We seek to understand who our prospective students are as people. As part of the school’s mission to value students as individuals and to see beyond numbers and grades, The Bay School has removed standardized testing from its admission process. As a test-free school, we will not consider standardized test scores even if they are submitted. This policy is not a reaction to the pandemic, but the result of years of research and conversation as to whether standardized testing aligned with our philosophy of holistic evaluation.
